About James

A recovering Technical Writer and Medical IT Systems Analyst, James spent decades writing online training courses and computer user manuals—the kind of writing rarely read for fun, only when necessary (or frustrated). But he became known for his clear prose, and for adding entertaining lightness and humor to otherwise dry, complex material.

After retiring from the tech world in 2019, he reacquainted himself with creative writing, a passion he had abandoned for a degree in technical writing while attending Eastern Washington University in the 1980s. (“At the time, I decided that making a living was a higher calling,” he says.) He enjoyed immediate success with his new material, winning second place in a national contest. That first short story, “Bitter Medicine,” became part of a collection of tales imagining the state of American health care in the year 2100.
